Ran Morgan MRICS

Property acquisition and client service is in Ran’s DNA. His foundation is a degree in rural land management, supplemented by the renowned ‘Achieving Breakthrough Service’ programme at Harvard Business School. He is a qualified Chartered Surveyor.

Ran has spent his career working with clients to find the best property for them, he knows the sector, how it works and how to deliver results.

He has had over 20 years’ experience. First in England with leading buying agencies Property Vision and The Buying Solution. Latterly he spent 10 years based in Edinburgh, Scotland, with one of the UK’s most prestigious property firms, Knight Frank, where he was responsible for its residential team covering city and country markets including houses, farms, forestry and estates.

Ran is one of the most respected operators in the UK rural land sector. Practical and down to earth, he oversees the running of the family farm in Dumfriesshire with his wife and two children and is also a Trustee of two property trusts.

Douglas Spencer-Nairn MRICS

Douglas is a Chartered Surveyor and RICS Accredited Valuer based in Edinburgh with over 15 years of experience in the rural, residential and commercial sectors.

He began his career in 2008 when he joined Savills after graduating with a degree in rural land management. Whilst at Savills he worked in the rural division managing estates and property portfolios across Scotland and qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 2010.

Douglas subsequently spent 10 years in London, working with Chestertons and Knight Frank undertaking professional valuations for lending, development and investment purposes. Whilst in London he was fortunate to gain experience in both commercial and residential markets, including the valuation of some of the highest value single-unit property assets in the UK.

Starting life in a remote glen in the Highlands and subsequently working in Edinburgh and London, he has broad experience in both urban and rural property markets across the country. Since returning to Scotland and joining Ran Morgan Consultancy in 2021, Douglas has acted for domestic and international clients on a wide variety of private acquisitions and investments.

Alastair Gemmell MRICS

Alastair specialises in the acquisition of prime rural assets in  northern Britain. He has developed a wealth of experience in the Scottish rural property sector,  principally in the sale and purchase of rural property. In addition, since 2005, he has provided estate management and consultancy advice to a wide variety of private and institutional clients whose landholdings amount to some 40,000 acres.

Alastair is from a rural background and obtained a degree in agriculture from the University of Edinburgh, before serving in the British Army for five years.  He qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 2008. Concentrating on estate management in the early part of his career he developed an extensive knowledge of rural property matters. He established a reputation and a loyal following based on his knack of anticipating opportunities and potential issues and delivering solutions. Most recently he  established a successful Farm and Estate Agency department in Perth as well as managing the Savills Perth office.

This balance of rural professional and transactional work ensures that Alastair has a thorough understanding of the many issues and opportunities, both current and developing, relating to rural property. Known for his thorough, considered and sound advice, he is highly sought after by those looking for guidance and an advantage in the purchasing process in this complicated market.

Alastair is passionate about the Scottish countryside and all that it can offer, running the family farm in Perthshire and spending much of his precious spare time in the Scottish Highlands and the Western Isles.

Katy Kennedy

Katy joined the Ran Morgan Consultancy team in March 2023, as a Personal Assistant, providing client support and assisting the team with administration. With a background in property and client facing roles, she is particular about delivering high quality service. Katy spent ten years with Knight Frank between London and Edinburgh including assisting with sales and purchases of prime rural property. After promotion to Associate Partner, she headed up sales in the north of Edinburgh dealing with a variety of properties.

Organised and proactive, she enjoys supporting the team to ensure we deliver the best possible client service, as well as managing the smooth day to day running of the office. She lives in Edinburgh with her husband and two young children.
